Took stock of magazine [?] and slept rest of morning. Slept until 3 in afternoon. On watch 4-8. Invasion postponed for 24 hrs. To bed about 12.

    My father never talked about this, except some funny stories and, of course, meeting women in France and Belgium! But the tone of these diary entries reveals that these guys really had no comprehension of the horror they were about to face in a few hours. My dad and his brother and two of my mother’s brothers were in that invasion too, all infantry, and three of the four made it out alive.
