[Southampton]

Painted ship with red lead until about 1530. Did some [???] and slept until suppertime. Wrote letters at night. To bed about 2330. [???] 2000-2200.

    That first [???] must be bugging you by now – is that the 5th appearance? Looks like “dehahoying” but could that first h be a b or k? Could it be his own coinage short for “deck ahoying”, ie being on lookout (a lookout would shout “deck ahoy” to get attention). Maybe go back over the previous occurrences and see if that would fit.

  2. It is totally bugging me! I’ll look over the other instances and see what I can come up with.
